چکیده

Cooperative behavior can be observed widely in our society. An important aspect of cooperation is that people can maintain mutual cooperation even if they are faced with social dilemma, which means the situation that people fail to cooperate although entire cooperation gives better payoff to everyone. Several mechanisms are pointed out to be important to overcome the social dilemma, and reciprocity is one of them [1]. Especially indirect reciprocity (cooperation to someone enhance his probability to have a cooperative response from others) is a key when partners of interaction are flexible [3]. It is necessary for this mechanism to work that people monitor what others do to others and appropriately judge whom they should cooperate with. Otherwise free riding behavior spreads and cooperation is abandoned.

Evolution of cooperation through indirect reciprocity.

How can cooperation through indirect reciprocity evolve and what would it be like? This problem has previously been studied by simulating evolution in a small group of interacting individuals, assuming no gene flow between groups. In these simulations, certain 'image scoring' strategies were found to be the most successful. However, analytical arguments show that it would not be in an individua...

Evolution of Indirect Reciprocity by Social Information : The Role of 1

The complexity of humans' cooperative behavior cannot be fully explained by theories of kin selection and group selection. If reciprocal altruism is to provide an explanation for altruistic behavior, it would have to depart from direct reciprocity, which requires dyads of individuals to interact repeatedly. For indirect reciprocity to rationalize cooperation among genetically unrelated or even ...

Partner Choice Drives the Evolution of Cooperation via Indirect Reciprocity

Indirect reciprocity potentially provides an important means for generating cooperation based on helping those who help others. However, the use of 'image scores' to summarize individuals' past behaviour presents a dilemma: individuals withholding help from those of low image score harm their own reputation, yet giving to defectors erodes cooperation. Explaining how indirect reciprocity could e...

A tale of two defectors: the importance of standing for evolution of indirect reciprocity.

Indirect reciprocity occurs when the cooperative behavior between two individuals is contingent on their previous behavior toward others. Previous theoretical analysis indicates that indirect reciprocity can evolve if individuals use an image-scoring strategy. In this paper, we show that, when errors are added, indirect reciprocity cannot be based on an image-scoring strategy. However, if indiv...

Ingroup favoritism and intergroup cooperation under indirect reciprocity based on group reputation

Indirect reciprocity in which players cooperate with unacquainted other players having good reputations is a mechanism for cooperation in relatively large populations subjected to social dilemma situations. When the population has group structure, as is often found in social networks, players in experiments are considered to show behavior that deviates from existing theoretical models of indire...
